C.H. Muhammad Koya Memorial (C.H.M.K.M) Government Arts & Science College, Tanur, was established in 2013 as part of the Kerala government's initiative to set up new arts and science colleges in assembly constituencies that lacked a government or aided college. Affiliated with the University of Calicut, the college has been instrumental in providing quality higher education to students, especially those from coastal and underprivileged backgrounds. Currently operating from a temporary campus in Puthentheru, approximately 2 km from Tanur town, the institution has become a significant educational center in the region.
The college offers a range of undergraduate programs designed to cater to the diverse academic interests and career aspirations of students. The courses include B.A. English, B.Com, BBA, BCA, and B.Sc. Electronics, all of which are structured to align with modern educational standards and industry requirements. With experienced faculty members and a student-centered approach, the college focuses on academic excellence, skill development, and holistic growth. In addition to regular coursework, students benefit from seminars, workshops, and training programs that enhance their knowledge and employability.
The vision to establish the college was realized through the dedicated efforts of Sri. Abdul Rahman Randathani, the former Honourable MLA of Tanur, whose commitment to higher education development played a crucial role in its foundation. The college was officially inaugurated on August 1, 2013, by the then Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri. Oommen Chandy, marking a historic moment in the educational progress of the region. The establishment of the college was further strengthened by the contributions of Honorable MLA Shri. V Abdurahiman and other community leaders who worked beyond political and religious lines to make the institution a reality.
The college has quickly gained recognition for its academic achievements and community engagement. It serves as an essential platform for students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, empowering them with knowledge and skills for their future careers. The cultural and religious harmony of the region serves as a strong foundation for the institution’s inclusive and progressive environment. As the college continues to expand its academic and infrastructural facilities, it remains dedicated to shaping future generations with a commitment to education, leadership, and social responsibility.
