National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (Divyangjan) established in the year 2005, on East Coast Road, Muttukadu, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, to serve as a national resource center for empowerment of persons with Multiple Disabilities such as those with two or more disabilities in a person. The Disabilities enumerated are Blindness, Low-vision, Leprosy Cured persons, Hearing Impairment (deaf and hard of hearing), Locomotor Disability, Dwarfism, Intellectual Disability, Mental Illness, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Chronic Neurological conditions, Specific Learning Disabilities, Multiple Sclerosis, Speech and Language disability, Thalassemia, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell disease, Multiple Disabilities including deaf blindness, Acid Attack victim, Parkinson's disease and Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities.
Information & Documentation center of NIEPMD established in the year 2005 with the aim of providing information dissemination service, Information Technology & Media service, Documentation services, HRD Students, organization, Community & Government functionaries, Rehabilitation Professionals, Persons with Disabilities (Divyangian) and their parents through acquisition, Publications and Research & Development. It includes three sections Library, Documentation center and Information Technology & Media center.
