The Government College of Engineering was established in 1984, It was run by All Transport Corporations of Government of TamilNadu and now the Institute is run as Government College of Engineering, Erode(GCEE). The Institute is located on a campus of 200 acres between Chithode and Bhavani in Erode district.

The college is affiliated to Anna University Chennai and approved by All India Council for Technical Education. College has 4 year Engineering courses in B.E. Automobile Engineering, B.E. Civil Engineering, B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering, B.E. Electronics and Communication Engineering, B.E. Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech. Information Technology, M.E. Computer Science and Engineering, M.E. Structural Engineering.
College has high standard infrastructure facilities including well furnished classrooms, 24 hours water, power supply etc. College has a good spacious library has wide collection of books, magazines, journals, national and international text books etc. All laboratories having modernized technologies and equipments which are highly useful for the students. The college has an opportunity for sports and other co curricular activities. Canteen of the college serves quality food to the students and staff. College has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Vegetarian and non vegetarian food also available to the students. Hostel warden has the control over the students and runs according to the rules and regulations of the college.
