Government Dental College & Research Institute was established in the year 1958 at Bangalore District. The College is approved by Government of Karnataka and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The BDS course is usually a five-year undergraduate program, including both theoretical and practical training. The curriculum covers various aspects of dentistry, including basic medical sciences, dental materials, oral pathology, periodontology, orthodontics, oral surgery, community dentistry, and more. Students receive a comprehensive education in both the theoretical and practical aspects of dentistry.
The Clinical training is a crucial component of the BDS course. Students gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating dental conditions under the supervision of experienced faculty. The central Library spreads with 8943 sq. ft. and 280 seating capacity with Audio Visual Hall which plays an important role in supporting the academic programs of the Institution. The central library is a repository of 1326 titles and 4696 copies of books, 1059 reference books and various collections of 13 National and 25 International journals on various specialties in dentistry. The College has separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The students get adequate basic amenities as per their needs which includes power supply, hot and cold water, nutritious food, game facilities, newspaper, prayer room etc are available for the students.
