Commencing its operations in June 1963 at the Seshasyee Institute of Technology in Trichy, the college swiftly transitioned to its current campus in June 1966 due to its growth. Spanning 96 acres, the polytechnic features well-constructed buildings, fully equipped laboratories, and workshops, earning it recognition as a premier technical institution in Tamil Nadu.
Located at Thuvakudimalai, 16 km from Trichy on the Trichy–Thanjavur National Highway, the college is situated between the renowned National Institute of Technology, Trichy (NITT), and the public sector giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL). The vicinity is further enriched by the presence of various small-scale units and major industries such as the Ordnance Factory Trichy (OFT), Railway Workshop, Golden Rock, Seamless Steel Tube Plant (SSTP), Magnetic Hydro Dynamic Power Project (MHD), and Heavy Alloy Penetration Project (HAPP). This strategic location provides students with valuable exposure to the prevailing industrial climate in the region.
