The Institute Of Road Transport Polytechnic College, Bargur, was initiated by the Institute of Road Transport, Taramani, Chennai-600 113, in the academic year 1992-1993. The primary objective was to provide technical education to the children of Transport Corporation employees.
The IRT Polytechnic College, Bargur, commenced its operations at Govt. Polytechnic College, Krishnagiri Campus, in 1992-1993, offering the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Branch with an initial intake of 60 students. Subsequently, in the academic year 1993-1994, the Electronics and Communication Engineering Branch was introduced with a student strength of 30. The institution expanded further in the year 1994-1995, increasing the total student intake to 120 with the addition of two branches: Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).
