Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health is a premier organization promoting Child Health Care services. It is an autonomous body registered under Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960 as 'Institute of Child Health, Karnataka' on 06.08.1985 and aided by Government of Karnataka, since 1991. It is a non-profit organization located in its own premises next to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences at South Hospital Complex in Bangalore.
Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health has excellent infrastructure with spacious classrooms, well equipped laboratories, skill laboratories, museums, library and auditoriums. The students are encouraged to participate in cultural, sports and other co-curricular activities. Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health has a well equipped and a comprehensive library, which offers students with all the reference material, they require for an in-depth understanding of their specific subjects. The library also subscribes for journals on the relevant subjects. Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology or BSc MLT is an undergraduate course of 3-year, which is divided into six years. In this course professionals are taught about various aspects of health care. The students perform various diagnostic analyses on body fluids, which include hematology, bacteriology, immunologic, chemical and microscopic during the course. The subjects taught in the program are Clinical Endocrinology & Toxicology Lab, Diagnostic Molecular Biology Lab, Diagnostic Cytology etc.
