S.N.College - Sivagiri

Inspired by the profound vision of the revered saint and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala, was established in 1964 as a symbol of the transformative power of education. Rooted in the philosophy of social upliftment through knowledge, the institution has played a crucial role in shaping Kerala’s higher education landscape. Sree Narayana Guru strongly believed that education is the key to breaking societal barriers and fostering equality, and the college continues to uphold his ideals. Over the decades, the institution has evolved into a distinguished center of learning, dedicated to academic excellence and social empowerment.  

Founded by Sri R. Sankar, a devoted disciple of Sree Narayana Guru and a visionary leader, the college is located atop the serene Sivagiri hills, offering an inspiring atmosphere for education. The institution started as a junior college but soon gained university approval to introduce degree programs in various disciplines. In response to the changing educational landscape, it expanded its academic offerings, introducing specialized courses such as B.Com with Hotel Management and Catering. The introduction of postgraduate programs, including Economics, Physics, and Analytical Chemistry, reflects the college’s commitment to staying at the forefront of academic progress and research excellence.  

With eleven undergraduate courses, four postgraduate programs, and a well-established research department in Economics, Sree Narayana College has built a strong scholastic tradition over more than five decades. The institution emphasizes a holistic approach to education, encouraging faculty and students to engage in research, critical thinking, and intellectual exploration.
